Introduction to Care

Within this unit, learners will gain an understanding of the main duties and responsibilities of a variety of roles within the care industry. They will also learn about the standards, codes of conduct and professional practices that relate to these roles.

Communication

Within this unit, learners will learn about the different types of communication and the importance of understanding an individual’s preferences, needs and wishes when it comes to communicating their feelings and thoughts. Learners will also learn about confidentiality and the legislation that underpins this.

Equality, Diversity, Privacy and
 Dignity

Within this unit, learners will learn about how it is important to work in ways that respect an individual’s beliefs, culture, values and preferences. They will also understand the importance of inclusion and challenging discrimination to encourage a positive change.

Safeguarding Adults

Within this unit, learners will understand the main types of indicators of harm and abuse. They will also learn about the fundamentals of safeguarding adults and how to respond and report suspected and disclosed abuse.

Health and Safety

Within this unit, learners will understand the fundamentals of health and safety within the care industry. This will include moving and assisting, medication, fire and security. They will also learn about the different types of accidents and sudden illnesses that may occur and how to prevent these from happening or escalating.

Mental Health, Dementia and Learning Disabilities Awareness

Within this unit, learners will be able to explain how positive attitudes towards those with mental health conditions, dementia or learning disabilities will improve the care and support they receive. They will also understand how people with mental health conditions, dementia and learning disabilities will have varying experiences and should be considered when supporting the individual.
